Jennifer Shaw
Owner & Head Trainer – JS Sport Horses & JS Racing Stable
From the moment I could walk, I was drawn to horses. I started riding at just two years old and quickly fell in love with the sport. Throughout my junior career, I competed successfully in the Pony Hunters and High Children’s Jumpers, training under some of the most respected names in the industry, including Chris Kappler, George Morris, Marty Samuel, and Cheryl Ash, among others.
After high school, I earned a riding scholarship to Virginia Intermont College, where I pursued a degree in Equine Studies and Pre-Law while also competing on the IHSA Team. My time there deepened my understanding of both the technical and theoretical aspects of equestrian sport, blending horsemanship with higher education and leadership.
Following graduation, I established and managed my own hunter/jumper show facility, continuing my show career in the 1.25m Jumpers and Hunters. These years shaped my approach to training—balancing discipline, compassion, and a deep respect for every horse I work with.
As life evolved, I took a step back from full-time farm life to focus on my growing family—my four amazing kids, Kaylie, Aire, Jaxson, and Jace—and to pursue an additional degree in Accounting. But my connection to horses never wavered. During this down time, I also obtained my Thoroughbred Trainer’s License, allowing me to combine my love of the show ring with the excitement of the racetrack through JS Racing Stable.
Today, I’m proud to bring both worlds together. My passion lies in developing riders and horses who not only compete successfully but also embody true horsemanship and sportsmanship. Whether a student’s goal is to compete at rated shows or simply gain confidence in the saddle, I strive to create a positive, structured, and inspiring environment where both horses and riders can thrive.
Teaching the next generation of equestrians everything I’ve learned—and watching their progress both in and out of the ring—is the most rewarding part of what I do. Horses have shaped my life in every way, and sharing that passion with others is truly my greatest joy.
